Learn a New Technique

This last weekend I went to the Long Beach hair show, I learned a lot of fun, new things that I want to share one of the new techniques I learned for getting a really fun, kinky wave in your hair.
Things you will need: 2, rat tail carbon combs.
Flat Ironand one or two Butterfly clips

First and most important, DO NOT USE a regular comb for this method I'm about to show you. You must use a Carbon comb. Carbon combs do not melt and that is the reason you HAVE to make sure you don't use any other type of comb.

Ok first thing you want to do is pull up all the hair except for an inch of the bottom section. Use your butterfly clip to hold the rest of the hair out of the way.

Second thing you want to do is take a small section of the hair that was left out and comb it out so that it is smooth. And hold it it in your left hand. HINT- if you want bigger waves use more hair at once and for really small, tight, kinky, waves use really small sections at once.

Next, take your two rat tail combs and hold them in your right hand like this...

Take the small section in your left hand and wrap it around each comb like a figure eight. You want to make sure when you start the figure eights that your combs are fairly close to the scalp. Continue to wrap the hair around each comb like this until the hair is all entirely wrapped around the combs.

Then hold the combs and the hair tight in your left hand and with your right hand get your hot flat iron and place the combs with the wrapped hair inside the flat iron. Press down for about 5 seconds, long enough for the hair to heat entirely.

Now slide the combs out of the hair and your left with the hair looking like this...

Continue doing this over the entire head until every hair has been waved. Then I would use some gloss drops (paul Mitchell), or super skinny serum or some other product that will give definition and shine to the hair. Rub the product into your hands and then separate all of the waves with your fingers.

From here you can either leave it like it is for some really great wavy hair with a ton of body or you can play with it further and do a fun up do, put it in pig tails or just go crazy and make it bigger with some hairspray.:) These waves can be so fun! It reminds me of the crimping day's but better!

I did this the other day on my daughter and we decided to put it up into an up do. I will have to do another tutorial on how I did that next time. Ok now, go try it! First go buy some carbon combs, I would hate for someone to melt their combs onto their hair! YIKES!
