ROUND AND HEART FACE SHAPE

It is very easy to find a hairstyle for a round face shape and a heart face shape. If you have a heart face shape your the goal is to make the forehead appear more narrow. Most hairstyles look good as long as you use some sort of bang whether it be a forward heavy bang or a side bang. Using bangs will cut the line of the forehead off making it appear not as wide.

Using bangs to cover your head like this will make your face appear to be oval which is the goal!






Here we have a hairstyle that doesn't have bangs but it works because the hair is parted way over on the side. the line of the hair is cutting off the width of the forehead.

Hairstyles to stay away from:

Exposing your forehead all the way like in this picture will show off the width of the forehead.

If you have a round face shape what you need to do is try to find styles the elongate your face shape.

Short hair is tricky when you have a round face shape. However, this style would work because the length is just longer then the chin and the style itself is more square looking. This would look great and it would draw the eye down making the face look longer and more narrow.

Longer styles look the best on people with a round face shape. Most long hairstyles would work. Just stay away from heavy bangs because those will cut the face off even more making it appear really small.

If your going short make sure the length is longer or shorter then your chin. If your going shorter make sure there is some sort of poof on top elongating the face shape.

This is an example of a short haircut that would work. the poof on the top makes the face look longer.

Hairstyles to stay away from:

curly, short hair is a no no. The curls make the face appear round.

This long hairstyle would normally work but the way it's curled around her chin will make it look round. If you have a longer style try to leave the layers longer then the chin.

Haircuts that end right near the chin shorten the face shape making it appear even more round.

this style really hugs the face and enhances the roundness.

DIAMOND FACE SHAPE

What we all want to achieve when styling our hair is for it to appear that our face shape is oval. When it comes to the diamond face shape there are so many styles that really would work and look fabulous.
People that have this face shape have really dominant cheek bones. They also have a very narrow forehead and jaw line. So when styling your hair you just need to think about what will make your forehead and jaw line just a little bit wider and to not enhance the cheek bones any more.

styles that look great for a diamond face shape:
-Straight across bangs would look great because they will appear to widen the forehead.
-Short hair that is full on top.
-any length would really look good as long as it doesn't end right at the cheek bones.
Styles that wont look as good:
-parting the hair down the middle will enhance the diamond shape.
-hair length or layers ending right at the cheek bone.

Pictures of what to do:

This short, curly style sould look good it is rounding out and widening the forehead. Doing this will make it appear more oval. If your doing this style just be sure to part it on the side and not directly in the middle.

any sort of bang would look great just make sure if your are doing a sweep bang to part it far enough over on the side widening the forehead. If it is parted closer to the middle it the bangs will draw a straight diagonal line making the diamond shape more apparent.

The length here will look great as well as the waves, widening out the jaw line.

A thick heavy bang looks great!

This style is right at the wrong length for a diamond face shape. When the hair length is right at the cheek bone it will make them appear even more dominant then they already are.
Parting the hair down the middle will make diagonal lines from the middle of the hair line to the cheek bones making it look much more diamond like.
The shape of this style and the exposed forehead will enhance the diamond shape.

OBLONG FACE SHAPE

Now I will go over what hair styles look great for those with a oblong face shape and those styles that should be avoided.

There really are so many dang cute styles that would look fabulous on someone that has an oblong face shape. You just have to think to your self before getting a style, would this lengthen my face shape? or, would this style shorten it?

Things to stay away from:
-growing your hair out really long with no bangs, layers or body. Leaving the face shape looking longer.
-Parting the hair down the middle, unless your hair is fairly short.
- Styles that are really straight and flat to the head.
- lifting the hair straight up in any way on top of your head elongating the face even more.

Things that will look great for this face shape:
- Bangs!!
- For the most part shorter hair looks the best.
- Curly hair or wavy hair.
- Fun textured or layered medium length hair with some sort of bang.

This style is all wrong for someone with an oblong face shape. Its very long, very straight and flat to the head and face there is nothing breaking it up such as layers or bangs. The length will make your face look longer, leaving it flat like this will make your face look thinner, and by not having layers or bangs you are leaving the shape of the face very long and very skinny looking.

Styling the hair up like this will lengthen the face shape even more.
Parting the hair down the middle with a medium to long hair length is going to also make the face appear longer.
uh, no!

I love all of these styles and think they would all look great with those with an oblong face shape.

The short length and the bangs will shorten your face shape. Way cute!!

When working with really short hair try to style the bangs forward like this shortening the face shape.
You don't always have to have bangs. You can part your hair farther over, sweep it across the forehead and wear your hair like this with a lot of body and some soft beautiful layers.
And like this with some curls, rounding out the face on the sides.
If you are going for a straighter look just make sure you have some bangs breaking it up a little.
Long hair is ok too curls like this would look great with the side bang.
Even long and straight can look great just make sure to add the bangs!!

SQUARE FACE SHAPE

I would like to go over what hair styles will look great for those with a square face shape and those styles that should be avoided.

As I have been looking through pictures of people with a square face shape I found quite a few actresses with this face shape. People with the square have a wide forehead and a very dominant jaw line. The goal for those with this face shape should be just to soften these features instead of enhancing them.

Things to stay away from:
-Any hair styles with really blunt straight lines.
-Forward, straight across bangs.
-Hair length ending at your jaw line. (defining jaw line more)
-pulling hair completely away from your forehead such as pulled all back in a pony tail.

Things that will look great for this face shape:
-Very textured or layered hair. This will give you more of a soft look.
-Side swept bangs.
-parting your hair down the middle.
-really long hair would look great Just make sure it has layers in it because if it is all one length and cut very bluntly then it will continue the square look.
-soft curls or waves look great because it softens the face.

This haircut has two things that are wrong for a square face shape. First, the bangs are very blunt and straight and second, the hair length hits right at the jaw line enhancing it. Not to mention that it is a very straight look, something that should be avoided.

These side bangs are actually good but I wanted to point out that the sides are really straight. This hair cut would work ok if styled more round and soft instead of flat ironing it really straight like this. (the bangs are good though)!
Styling your hair back like this shows off the exact squarness of your face. Jessica Simpson does have a square face shape and you can see how this style really shows it off.
The bangs in this one are ok too but the length with these curls would make a square face shape look even more square.
again, stay away from these blunt straight lines
and pulling hair away from your face


Pictures of what you SHOULD do:

Really long hair looks great especially for those with really thick hair. Make sure to keep the layers soft and stay away from the hair becoming all the same length.


The side swept bangs look really great with a square face shape because it softens the width of the forehead. Also bringing the hair length right about the jaw line will round out the sides of the face and make your face appear to be more oval instead of square. This haircut would look great with a square face shape.


Parting the hair down the middle and having longer hair also looks great. The part cuts the width of the forehead down a lot. Waving your hair like this will also really soften your face and would look fabulous!!


Curls will also really soften your face shape. Just make sure your hair is longer then the jaw line or shorter.


Another great example for square face shape is just a really long, softly layered, style with a side swept bang.
This style will really round out a square face shape.
Long waves and part down the middle look really soft.

FACE SHAPE

Not many people know what the best hairstyle is for their face shape. The next couple of posts I will be giving examples of some flattering styles for all different types of face shapes. Hopefully this will help some of you understand your face shape a little more and what styles really will work for you and look great.

First you need to find out what your face shape is. To do this pull your hair all back into a pony tail make sure your hair is all away from your face. Now have someone take a close up picture of you or if you prefer you can just look in the mirror. (the picture might work a little better but make sure you stand in front of something dark so that your face is defined) Now as your looking through all of these face shapes hopefully you will be able to find one that looks like yours. A lot of times someone will have two shapes in one.

For example I have an oval face shape although on one side of my face my jaw is more defined (more square) So I sort of have a mix between oval and square. For the most part though you will have more of one than the other. Sometimes it helps to have a friend nearby to figure this out with you. Sometimes it's hard to do it yourself.
This is the HEART face shape. (widest at the forehead, narrow at the chin)
In this picture it looks to me like Tyra Banks has a Heart face shape.

Square face shape (widest at the forehead and the jaw area)
I'm pretty sure Sandra Bullock has a square face shape.
Oval face shape
The beautiful Julia Roberts
Diamond face shape (very dominant cheek bones and narrow at the forehead and chin area)
Im not 100 percent sure on this one. It's hard to find Diamond face shapes.
Round face shape
Kirsten Dunst has a round face shape.
Oblong face shape (long and narrow)
Sarah Jessica Parker definitely has an oblong face shape.
